Statement on My Role as Kennedy Center Composer in Residence
Thank you to all of you who have reached out to me out of concern. Yes, it is a stressful and frustrating time, but I'm ok. I lift up my colleagues, namely Deborah Rutter who has become family.
I have been coming to the Kenedy Center for as long as I can remember as a young person. For me, it has always represented the highest ideals of world class art by showcasing talent across this nation and the world. I have been extremely fortunate to serve as Composer in Residence since 2021. The Kennedy Center has always been a supportive platform for my mission as an artist-activist, and I will continue to use this platform without compromise. I don't know what to expect as I continue, but I will not waiver from my artistic integrity.
